The team compled an excellent week in Kirasha seeing over 400 patients in the medical clinic and over 100 for the reading glass clinic in just 2 1/2 days. Many people who came to the clinic were people displaced by the tribe clashes. All team members are in good health and had a good week in Kirasha. We arrived last night to Brackenhurst, (a Baptist Retreat Center) for the weekend. Team will go on a local Safari on Sat then to churches on Sunday. We leave for the Keini Refugee Camp on Monday early morning. Appreciate your continued prayers as we go into this critical time of our journy next week.
The team sends their love to all friends and family members.

Message from Arlene
The team arrived safely last night and everybody from the various places in the US all connected together. The bags arrived with no issues. They had a meeting today with pastors and elders and a great prayer meeting and are ready to go to Kirasha tomorrow. Dr. Thompson and her team are ready to do the ultrasound training tomorrow with the staff. The clinic looks beautiful and they've really spruced it up a lot since last summer when it opened. Everybody is well and in good spirits and appreciates everybody's prayers.

Dear Friends;
On April 12, 2008, our team will take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Kirasha, Kenya and the Kenei Forest Refugee Camp. 15 team members are responding to the call of our Lord and His promises as stated in Isaiah 58:6-9. Many of you have contributed to this work with your encouragement, prayers and financial assistance.
Important: On April 21, we will walk around the camp praying and worshipping Jesus. We believe this is a pivotal time of restoration and deliverance for the people living in the camp. Wherever you are, join us in prayer and praises on this day – intercede for the incredible love of Jesus to reign in and around the camp.
Please accept this letter as our invitation to pray and intercede on behalf of this ministry to Kenya. Pray for our Kenyan Leadership, for team members and for our Kenyan brothers and sisters living in the Refugee Camp.
The following points are listed to help guide your prayers and petitions on our behalf:
Refugee Camp:
- Salvation of hearts and souls
- Healing of broken and wounded bodies
- Deliverance from oppression
Freedom, peace and joy in our Lord Jesus Christ
Kenyan and US Team:
- Physical protection, health and safety
- Unity in purpose and fellowship
- Rooted relationships with our Kenyan
Brothers and sisters.
Freedom, peace, and joy in our Lord Jesus Christ
We desire to see multiplication in God’s handiwork, and to place His will up and above of our own understanding or thoughts and we look forward to His wonders and miracles. Call them forth in Jesus Name!
“Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke?
Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry, and to bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then your light will break out like the dawn, and your recovery will speedily spring forth; and your righteousness will go before you;
The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry and He will say, “Here I am.”
If you remove the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, and if you give yourself to the hungry, and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday.” Isaiah 58

Edith, the clinic administrator in Ndumberi, has reported that they are all fine, however they are very sad as the Kikuyu tribe, which have been the victims so far from the recent violence, are now seeking revenge and more killings have come from it. They are not seeing any problems in their area. The Rift Valley and further west are still the hot areas. Edith said the clinic in January has been slow, she thinks it is because people are staying home due to the unrest.
The Rift Valley is home to the Kirusha Refugee Camp, where we have a team planning to go to in April. We are looking for male team members to round out our existing medical crew going there. Please contact Genesis World Mission if you are interested in helping.

If you've been watching the news you know that there is a lot of unrest in Kenya right now over election results. http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=kenya+election+violence&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=news_result&resnum=1&ct=title
In fact, dozens of people died taking refuge in a church admist the violence, when the building was burned to the ground.
Please pray for the PEFA Mercy Medical Clinic staff and patients in Ndumberi for safety and to be peacemakers amidst the violence in their country.

This months report from Kenya was so compelling, I thought it was worth getting the word out:
Mercy Ministry’s Ndumberi Clinic
November Monthly Report to Genesis World Mission
1. What triumphs and successes have you had this month at the clinic. This can include patient stories, staffing, financial, operational, etc.
l A 24 yr old lady first visited our clinic in August 2007 immediately we opened. Her problem was that she has been married for 5 yrs and had not conceived. The clinical officer and the nurse prayed for her and advised her on safe days. She came back this month and was confirmed pregnant. It was very exciting and Glory to GOD.
l A neighbor to our lab technologist shared with her how she took her child to the district hospital and instead of the baby improving she got worse. She decided to bring the kid to PMMC and after treatment the child recovered well. She was very grateful for the work and services in the clinic.
l Most of the hypertensive and diabetic patients we started off with are much improved and stable.
2. What short-term challenges have you faced this month? What long term challenges are you currently confronting?
Short term
u Had to handle an emergency of two patients with Asthmatic attacks who did not have money and could not wait for the eligibility procedure.
u Our clinical officer faced a difficult challenge when she came across a patient who was on and off with Diarrhea. She counsel led and asked him to be tested for HIV which turned positive. His wife and three year old kid were also tested after a lot of counsel ling and the worst fear was confirmed when they all turned positive. It was very heartbreaking for her and the whole family. She referred them to Nazareth Hospital for follow up.
Long term.
u We have a lot of cases with dental problems that we cannot handle. The best we are able to do is give them painkillers and refer. Our prayer is that the dental unit may start soon.
u Community members are asking for family planning and immunization which we cant start before registration of the clinic by ministry of Health. It is taking time and we pray that the process will be faster.
3. What new projects are you starting this month? This may include building and property improvements, programs, activities, services, etc.
l No New building projects, but glad to report that the 110 volts power line is complete and working well. We are able to use the auto clave and the other machines that we need.
l We offered a circumcision service to 17 boys from the community and we had to hire a male clinical officer to perform the surgery. This is mainly due to cultural orientation. 7 of the boys circumcised were from the project. We charged about $15 dollars each for this service. This is not reflected in the operation statistics as it is a one time undertaking. The Nurse and the clinical officer assisted him.
4. How are you using church or community volunteers or donated materials to provide more cost-effective services?
l We have not used community or church volunteers but the donated materials have helped us a lot in offering cost effective and good services. Donated materials have also contributed to the cutting down of our monthly budget on supplies and patient consumables.
6. What kinds of promotional efforts or clinical outreach into the community have taken place this month? We put an announcement to the churches when we were informing them about the service to the boys.
7. Please share anything else you think is important for us to know.
l We identified a person from the district hospital who can operate and show us how to use the ultra sound machine. We shall try it out in Dec.
l December is a busy month with a lot of holidays which may interfere with our day to day operations but we shall try to balance between our patients and our staff as they need rest too and time to be with their families.
8. How can we pray for you?
u For God's care and protection during this campaign period as we go into elections on 27th Dec.
u For continued strength and power
u For faster process in getting the clinic registered.
u For a word that is effective as we share with our patients

Genesis World Mission announced today that it will be sending a team of over 30 people for a two week medical outreach to Ndumberi, Kenya. The team includes members of several Treasure Valley churches and will conduct medical clinics with 60 bags (120 cubic feet) full of medical supplies and medications. The team will be leaving the Boise airport Saturday July 14th 2007 at 8:05 a.m.
While in Kenya the team will be providing medical services in Ndumberi from July 16th through the 20th and will travel to Kirasha refugee children’s clinic to set up a clinic there on July 21st and 22nd. This will be the 5th medical outreach trip performed by the partnership between Genesis World Mission, Capital Christian Center, Eagle Nazarene Church and other medical professionals since 2003.
As part of the trip the team will be taking part in the opening celebrations of a medical established as a result of this partnership. Ground was broken last summer on the 7,200 square foot, two story building, by a team from Eagle Nazarene and construction has continued under Kenyan direction since then. With an anticipated opening date of August 6th, 2007 the clinic will operate 5 days a week offering primary health care, HIV/AIDS education, training and counseling, and other services. The first year goal is to treat 600 patients a month.
The clinic was built to give the citizens of Ndumberi access to health care that was unavailable to them before because of cost or accessibility reasons. The rural town located about 10 KM north of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, has a population of about 18,000 people and has an estimated physician to patient ratio of one physician for every 33,000 patients.
“We are just absolutely thrilled that this clinic will finally become operational,” said Dr. Karl Watts, President of Genesis World Mission. “We’ve been working to establish this clinic for just 2 years. The establishment of this clinic has moved far faster than any of us could have ever thought possible. It truly is to God’s glory!”
Genesis World Mission was started in 1997 and became a non-profit corporation in 2001. It is a non-denominational Christian organization whose goal is to convey the love of Jesus Christ by meeting the physical, medical, and spiritual needs of the less fortunate, both globally and locally. In addition to involvement in multiple international humanitarian relief projects, since 2003 it has operated the Garden City Community Clinic, which provides free medical care to eligible patients without access to insurance. It does this through volunteer health care providers.

Genesis World Mission announced today that it will be sending a container of medical equipment and supplies Monday to Kenya as part of its support for a medical clinic there. “We are just absolutely thrilled that this container is finally going,” said Dr. Karl Watts, President of Genesis World Mission. “We’ve been working in Kenya for three years and the establishment of this clinic has moved far faster than any of us could have ever thought possible. It truly is to God’s glory!”
Genesis World Mission has been investigating the possibility of a sustainable medical clinic in Ndumberi Kenya in partnership with Kenya Mercy Ministries (KMM). Ndumberi is a rural town about 10 KM north of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. KMM also provides a women’s work center, children’s center, and pastoral training as part of its local outreach. The medical clinic will provide primary and prenatal health care, dental services, HIV/AIDS education, training and counseling, and other services. The goal is for 50 people a day to be served five days a week. Because the clinic will provide very high quality services, they will be able to charge service fees on a sliding scale basis, which will help provide long term sustainability.
The clinic project is a partnership between Genesis World Mission, Capital Christian Center and Eagle Nazarene Church. Ground was broken last summer by a team from Eagle Nazarene and construction has continued under Kenyan direction since then with the building being nearly complete this spring.
The 40’ container is being prepared for shipping by Nampa-based Hands of Hope, a Christian organization which collects, refurbishes and ships medical equipment and supplies worldwide. The estimated arrival date in Nairobi is June 30th.
